The position I’m interested in applying for requires a security clearance and I don’t have one. What should I do?

You must complete the interview process and once your receive and accept the official offer of employment the FCI Security Officer will contact you to begin the process for you to complete the clearance application required for the position you accepted. Your official start date will be contingent upon you receiving an interim collateral security clearance and subsequent final DoD security clearance.

If I don’t have a clearance, how long does it take to get one?

It usually takes approximately seven to ten business days, once the application process is submitted, to receive an interim security clearance. It can take up to 90 days to receive the final collateral security clearance without SCI access.

The position I’m interested in requires a different clearance then what I currently have. What will this mean if I am hired?

In accordance NISPOM directives, employees are only allowed to hold the security clearance for the position they are being hired for, regardless if the clearance they currently hold is higher than the job they accepted. If a new employee holds a higher clearance than what is required for the position they accepted, their higher clearance is held in abeyance and is still available to be assigned “immediately”, as long as the investigation window of the assigned higher clearance has not expired or lapsed regardless of who holds the clearance.
